Auchi Takefumi

Winston Payne is a prosecutor known as the "Rookie Killer" due to his tendency to defeat novice defense attorneys.

He is smug and overconfident, but can have trouble clearly articulating his arguments in court, and he begins to panic when his cases break down, to the point that witnesses sometimes defend themselves while ignoring him completely.

Payne appears to view Phoenix Wright as a sort of nemesis due to repeated losses against him in court, though this is one-sided. Fellow prosecutors, such as Miles Edgeworth, also seem to have a difficult time remembering him.

His younger brother, Gaspen Payne, is also a prosecutor.
