A peddler who makes a living by selling goods on European train lines. On ordinary railroads, well-equipped dining cars do not yet exist, and at best wine, ham, and cheese are sold. However, despite the inconvenience, passengers on long-distance routes are able to enjoy a reasonably comfortable trip because of the large number of peddlers. Susie is one such peddler who, like a comical hermit crab, travels back and forth along the various routes with her many wares.
She carries portable bedding for sale on her back, a variety of bread in a net palanquin, dried meat, a butcher knife, dried fish, cherries, apricots, peanuts, and mead hanging from a sash around her waist. Although all of these foods are preserved, they are guaranteed to taste good, much better than the goods in a poor dining car. The reason for the abundance of sweet foods is to relieve the passengers' fatigue. The train is not a slow-moving train, and moves around the train actively.
She is a simple girl who worships the goddess of the mountains and treats her passengers with sincerity and the spirit of a once-in-a-lifetime encounter as a peddler. Since she has been a peddler since she was a child, she knows nothing of the feelings that girls her age experience, and apart from her business-related knowledge and emotions, she has a pure heart like a maiden. She has a dreamy side, believing that one day a wonderful prince will come for her, perhaps because of this or because of the intensity of her imagination of her natural disposition.
