In his childhood, he was trying his best to survive after his parents abandoned him. Saeko was the one that took him in, but he has little to no respect for her in spite of that. Despite this, he actually cares for her.
He may not look like it, but despite his appearance, he's actually a quick witted and adaptable person, especially in tight situations. As the story progresses, he falls in love with Yukiko.
