Katja

The protagonist. She worked as a receptionist in a printing press company, owned by her parents, who are alchemists. One day, the establishment where they worked was set in fire; an investigation concluded it was an arson but the culprit couldn't be found (they had a lot of enemies, since alchemists were seen as witches or warlocks and their inventions as witchcraft).
After the incident, Katja's parents decided it was better to send her daughter to live with her aunt, accompanied by a Gerhard, her best friend, until the family business gets up and running again.
