The first fully operational android, Maria was meant to be the proof that sentient life can be artificially created.

Though considered a great success at the time, new technologies and rising concerns about the ethics of artificial intelligence meant that no other model was ever produced and Maria was hastily discarded, forgotten even by her creators.
