Niimi Kakeru

"Man, what the heck am I gonna do with this thing?"

The protagonist of the story and a second year at Hakusen Academy.
Though he can be a bit blunt, Niimi is a reliable young man with a strong sense of responsibility.
After Kujo explained the Artifacts to him, he joined her on a mission to get to the bottom of the mysterious petrification incidents plaguing the town.
According to Sophitia, he seems to be an Artifact user himself, but he is entirely unaware of it, and his abilities are unknown.

In the Sorairo world line, he is given the flame-manipulating Artifact from Sophitia to fight Ghost and later Magic Eye of Petrification and the ability to summon Ghost in the Haruiro world line.

It is implied that his Artifact is the fabled Overlord. It enables him to shift his existence from one branch of a world line to another, with his memories of the previous branch intact, allowing him to continuously avoid death. He can also extract bits of information from another version of himself, though this ability initially appeared to be involuntary.

Kakeru is given the Artifact that allows him to summon Lena and master it fully. It is later revealed that this is due to his innate ability to draw out Artifacts' potential to their maximum, which Sophie dubs as Overdrive.

Kakeru later discovered that his artifact was not Overlord but a fragment of the Eye of the World. This enables him to "open a door" and make contact with different world line branches, allowing him to inherit both memories and Artifact powers from them.
