Mita Ken

The protagonist. Forced to flee his home in Tokuyama after his brother's murder, and injured while trying to save his sister Saya from being kidnapped, he is saved by the intervention of the Shinsengumi.

Learning that he managed to kill one of his attackers in self-defence despite having never picked up a sword before, the Shinsengumi members are highly impressed. With him and his sister having nowhere else to go, and no other people to rely on, he agrees to join them as a recruit, in order to hone his swordsmanship, and also to give Saya a safe place to be.

But there is seemingly more to his almost miraculous abilities with a sword than meets the eye...
