Clodia's best and perhaps only real friend, Portia is a minor noble of such little import that she can openly disregard the cultural norms for noblewomen with (relatively) few consequences. As such, Clodia has always been envious of her friend's apparent freedom, and indeed it was Portia who opened Clodia's mind to the possibilities of a different life, one far away in some land of sensual beauty.
