It may look old-fashioned by our standards, but this is a different era where electricity and TV do exist.
This is also a world where cooking means way more than it does in our reality.
The story takes place in the great culinary nation known as the Kingdom of Cinnamon.
The Royal Saint Simon Cooking Academy in the capital has produced some of the world's top chefs, people who earned the title "Great Chef." It's a prestigious school with a reputation for being pretty hardcore.
Their motto: "Once you've nailed the basics, it's all about practice." Second-year students, the seniors, do business internships at restaurants outside school. And when that internship starts, so does their graduation exam.

"I might be jumping ahead here, but I've been working part-time since my first year, I know people now and have my eye on some places... so I'll figure something out."

Our main character Dill will be starting his second year this fall. He gets free tuition as long as he keeps his grades up, so making sure his internship restaurant succeeds is life or death for him.
That's why he's been prepping like crazy because prep work is everything in cooking, but...

"Huh, there's a special transfer student going to the Bayleaf branch? Wait, me? I'm the special transfer student?"

Just as he was about to really get things rolling for the grand opening, he got word he'd be shipped off to Bayleaf too. His teacher Rato broke the news about him transferring to the branch campus.
Maybe it's fate. Bayleaf is that far-off port town where Dill was born and raised. But after eight years away, his connections and sense of place are pretty much shot.
But it's not like he can say no. Now he has to go through with it, even if shooting for Master Chef is totally out of reach...

And so begins Dill's graduation challenge in an old town that changed.
