The letter, silently handed to him, included the name of the "relative" from several years ago, the girl's name, circumstances, and a request that he fulfill his obligation to support her.
The girl, a distant relative of the protagonist, had lost both parents in an accident, just like the protagonist, and as a result, had become disabled. Now
able to walk only with a cane, she was passed around from relative to relative, eventually losing her place in the world and eventually finding herself living with the protagonist, who was in a similar situation.
Although it was a forced situation, the moment the protagonist saw the girl, he felt a resemblance to his younger sister and decided to accept her.
