After two years in prison, my capable right-hand man greeted me with those utterly boring words.
"Hmph—good to see you’re still the same," I replied, shrugging as I got into the car.
Ever since my father, the former Prime Minister, passed away, my life had turned upside down.
I was arrested on suspicion of patricide, then hit with one false charge after another until the accusations piled up like a snowball.
I lost count of how many death sentences I’d need to atone for it all.
Sure, I’ve committed plenty of crimes, but none of them ever came to light.
In other words, this was all a setup.
And no, for the record, I didn’t kill my father.
This was all a conspiracy orchestrated by the current Prime Minister, Takaida Kouzou, and his People’s Rights Party.

Though, it’s not unconditional freedom.
For the time being, I’m under surveillance by investigators loyal to Takaida, and I’ve been forced to promise not to enter politics using my father’s influence or expose the details of their dealings.
They even took my sister as a hostage to make sure I’d comply.
As the son of a former Prime Minister, the life I’ve been allowed is one of quietly burning through my inheritance while living in obscurity.
Of course, I have no intention of dedicating myself to such a dull, stifling existence.
If I let them have their way, this country—already drowning in corruption and greed—will be devoured by its neighbors before anyone realizes it.
My relationship with my father was far from perfect.
